| New Open Air Retail Center Opening Its Doors - Statesboro Georgia Statesboro's newest and most talked about retail project is finally beginning to open its doors. Situated on about 50 acres at the corner of Brannen Street and the Statesboro Bypass, the project will initially open with over 139,000 square feet of shopping space spread across stores including Hobby Lobby, TJ Maxx, Petco and Books-A-Million. And don't worry, if 139,000 square feet doesn't satisfy your shopping requirements, you will be happy to know that the center was planned for expansion with room for an additional big box store and multiple pad sites. There will also be a new bike trail built along the property that will eventually connect Brooklet to Statesboro and provide a great way for the community to safely travel the area. To date, several pad sites have been sold and activity is strong. Carey Hillards Restaurant has purchased one for its use and others have also been acquired with further details coming soon. Back in January, Books-A-Million officially announced its intent to move into the center. With over 200 stores in 19 states, it is the 3rd largest book retailer in the US. Hooby Lobby, which was first to open late September, will occupy almost 50,000 square feet while TJ Maxx will occupy 26,000. Rack Room Shoes and Hibbett Sports will occupy in line shops between TJ Maxx and Books-A-Million. In a well executed plan, it took just under a year since the property was purchased in October 2007 to get to opening day. The project is valued at over $30 million dollars and will add millions in tax revenue to Statesboro each year.
